What we collect and why

We do not use forms to collect personal data on this website. If you contact us by phone or email using the details on this site, we will receive the information you choose to give us, such as your name, contact details and the nature of your enquiry. We use this to respond to you and, where appropriate, to take steps towards providing legal services.

Our lawful basis for dealing with enquiries is our legitimate interest in responding to communications sent to us. Where you ask us to provide legal services, processing may also be necessary to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract.

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as pages visited, time on site, approximate location and device type. This helps us improve the website. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer.

Sensitive information

Please do not send confidential or sensitive information by email unless necessary. If you choose to provide information relating to criminal allegations, convictions, health, racial or ethnic origin, or other sensitive matters, we will process such information only where permitted by law and where necessary to deal with your enquiry or provide legal services.

Cookies

We only set analytics cookies if you accept them through our cookie banner. Google Analytics uses cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by a unique identifier, which last up to two years. Strictly necessary cookies, such as the one remembering your cookie choice, do not require consent. You can change your preferences at any time using the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

Who we share it with

We use trusted providers to run the website and handle our communications: our website hosting provider, Microsoft (email), and Google (analytics, only with your consent). We never sell your data.

International transfers

Some of our service providers may process personal data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards in accordance with UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

Enquiries by phone or email are kept for 12 months if they do not lead to instruction, then deleted. If you become a client, your information is kept in line with our client privacy notice. Analytics data is retained for 14 months.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@mlc.law. We will respond within one month.

This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18 through the website.
